The 12-member jury in the Vybz Kartel murder trial today heard voice recordings of a man threatening to kill Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
The recordings were voice notes taken from a BlackBerry cellphone.
Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, formerly of the Cybercrimes Unit, played the voice recordings which he said were made on the phone on August 14, 2011.
Kartel whose real name is Adidja Palmer is charged jointly with fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell also called ‘Shawn Storm’, Kahira Jones, Shane Williams and Andre St John for Williams’ murder.
The prosecution is alleging that Williams was killed at Kartel’s house in Havendale in St. Andrew in relation to two missing guns.
In one of the voice notes, which was punctuated with expletives, a voice was heard complaining of receiving a call from a man called “Lizard” and another man, identified as “Wee”, telling him that they could not locate “two new shoes”.
The voice was also heard saying he told ‘Lizard’ he had until 8 o’clock that night to return the shoes.
The voice further said that if he did not get back the shoes he was going to kill one of them.
Two CDs which Detective Sergeant Linton said he prepared from the BlackBerry phone were tendered into evidence before the recordings were played.
Defence lawyers objected to the CDs being tendered into evidence on the grounds that the policeman had said he could not verify the integrity of the voice on the video.
Objections were also raised that the voice notes could not be identified.
However, the objection was overruled by presiding judge Justice Lennox Campbell.
He admitted them into evidence and remarked that the defense must conform with the ruling.
