MAY 2014 SPOTLIGHT ARTIST – MACKEY SOLO

Mackey Solo was born in Kingston, Jamaica W.I on July 14th. He has always enjoyed singing and listening to soft and conscious reggae music. Some of his musical influences include Jah Cure, Sizzla and the late legendary Bob Marley. He started out writing poems and later decided to pursue his passion for singing and song writing. Mackey sang in churches and outside neighborhoods in Jamaica to get an early start. As he continued to gain confidence he performed at open mic spots such as Annie’s Art Gallery, Busboys and Poets, Twelve Lounge and Pure Poetry. Mackey has showcased his talent at Wheaton High School for international night in 2011, Miss Caribbean in 2012 and in 2013 events where the mayor of Baltimore was present. He performs for house and private events as well. Mackey Solo was the January 2012 winner of the Hype Life song competition held in Queens, New York. This gave him the opportunity to launch his first official music video “Creep Up Pon Har”, which was featured on Hype Life TV and broadcast on YouTube channels. The next music video followed was “Hear Me” which you can also find on ZulanObrien.com. His third official music video “Take My Breath Away” is also doing well. Mackey Solo knows the importance of being consistent. He has three singles on iTunes (Hot Gal Run In a combination with Rush Dem, Someday, and Take My Breath Away). His music is also available on Amazon.com. Mackey Solo released a mixtape in 2013 entitled “Blue Moon”. The Blue Moon mixtape was influenced because of the originality and unique reggae music in the DMV and also in Jamaica. “My music speaks for itself, you just need to listen and give it a chance. I promise that you will feel it.” Mackey stated. He has also performed at many Jamaican Dancehall/Reggae events over the past couple of years including The Baltimore Jerk Fest and Reggae in the Capitol. Some of his most memorable moments was performing alongside and opening shows for artist such as Johnny P, Lisa Hyper, Voicemail, Chris Martin, Morgan Heritage and other local DMV artist. He has been on a few radio station interviews (WLVS, WPFW 89.3 FM and DJ Fonzarelly). His latest accomplishment was performing at The Washington DC Reggae Music Awards on April 20, 2014. He has no intentions of slowing down.
