The tagline for the 2013 BET Awards was “anything can happen” and the show stayed true to form. A full-on Caribbean music tribute took place at the show’s end with fan favorites like Beenie Man with “Who Am I,” Dawn Penn who performed “No, No No” and “Murder She Wrote” by Chaka Demus and Pliers. When Elephant Man jumped on stage for “Pon Di River,” though, even Nicki Minaj, who was sitting in the audience, couldn’t resist getting her dance on.

The annual award show has been packed with performances and surprise cameos. Miguel joined J. Cole for “Power Trip” earlier in the evening and Justin Timberlake broke out his suit and tie to pay tribute to legendary soul singer Charlie Wilson.

R. Kelly amazed fans with teasers of his repertoire and Kendrick Lamar brought out Erykah Badu to help him on “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” Right before he hit the stage, Kendrick Lamar scooped up an award for ‘Best New Artist.’ He beat out others like The Weeknd and Joey Bada$$, but what was most interesting is that K Dot was MIA when he had to claim his prize. Presenters Gabrielle Union and Angela Bassett looked around confused as to the whereabouts of the emcee and accepted it for him.

Anything can happen!
